Abu Dhabi, September 23: Rahul Tripathi and Venkatesh Iyer shine as Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) defeated Mumbai Indians (MI) by seven wickets and moved into the fourth position in IPL 2021 at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Thursday (September 23).
After the bowlers fought back to restrict Mumbai Indians to 155/6 in their allotted 20 overs, Tripathi and Iyer scored 74 and 53 respectively as KKR ended their losing streak against MI.
With this win, KKR leapfrogged Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai Indians into the play-off postion thanks to their superior net run rate.

Ahead of this match, KKR had won just six wins of 28 games against MI, but the bowlers, Iyer and Tripathi helped the franchise turn around their fortunes.
Chasing 156, KKR got off to a flying start as Shubman Gill and Iyer put on 40 runs inside three overs. However, the opening stand was cut short as Jasprit Bumrah bowled Gill (13) in the third over of the innings.
At the end of the powerplay, KKR's score read 63/1 with Iyer going all guns blazing. Iyer and Tripathi continued with their carnage and both the batters registered their respective half-centuries.
The pair put on 88 runs for the second wicket, but the stand was finally broken by Bumrah, who sent Iyer (53) back to the pavilion with KKR 28 runs away from the target. Bumrah struck again with the dismissal of Eoin Morgan (7).
In the end, Tripathi (74 not out off 42 balls) and Nitish Rana (5*) took KKR over the line with 29 balls to spare.
