Mumbai, April 25: A clinical performance from Chennai Super Kings helped them defeat Royal Challengers Bangalore by 69 runs in match number 19 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 here on Sunday (April 25).
CSK scored 191 for four after skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni opted to bat on winning the toss. In reply, RCB were stopped at 122 for 9 in 20 overs.
Ravindra Jadeja smashed 62 off 28 balls, including 37 runs in the innings' final over with the help of five sixes and a four off purple cap holder Harshal Patel's bowling.
CSK opener Faf du Plessis scored 50 off 41 balls and shared a first-wicket stand of 74 runs with Ruturaj Gaikwad (33) at the Wankhede Stadium.
Harshal was the most successful bowler for RCB, returning figures of 3/51, including the 37 runs in his fourth and final over. Jadeja also shone with the ball and finished with excellent figures of 3/13 in four overs, including taking the big wickets of AB de Villiers and Glenn Maxwell.
There was no stopping Jadeja in the field as well as he effected a brilliant run out with his direct hit to end the sent RCB all-rounder Dan Christian for one. The Saurashtra cricketer was awarded player of the match for his all-round skills in his team's final match at Wankhede.
CSK have now climbed at the top of the points table with 8 points, including four consecutive wins, and a healthy net run rate of 1.612.
It was a forgettable day for the Royal Challengers as they let the momentum slip away from their hands in the final over of CSK's innings and later none of the batsmen could pose any challenge to CSK's quality spin attack.
However, it was the pace duo of Sam Curran and Shardul Thakur which removed RCB's in-form openers Virat Kohli (8) and Devdutt Padikkal (33) in the powerplay itself to push their opponents on the backfoot.
