Bengaluru, April 25: In a thrilling finish on Sunday, Delhi Capitals snatched a win over Sunrisers Hyderabad, beating SRH via the first Super Over of the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
The MA Chidambaram Stadium, which has been a tough wicket to play on, witnessed another thrilling contest as Delhi held onto their nerves to come out onto the winning side.
After electing to bat first, Delhi openers gave the Capitals a strong start, stitching together an opening stand of 81 off 64 on a tough Chepauk pitch.
While Shikhar Dhawan scored 28 off 26, Prithvi Shaw led with a 39-ball 53 to set Delhi up with a defendable total in Chennai. Rishabh Pant (37 off 27) and Steve Smith (35 off 25) also chipped in with modest knocks to guide the Capitals to 159/4.
In response, Hyderabad once again failed to capitalise on Jonny Bairstow’s strong start. While the SRH middle-order disappointed once again, Kane Williamson took the match into the Super Over with an unbeaten 66 off 51. J Suchit playing his first match for SRH, chipped in with an important 14 off 6. Williamson and Suchit dragged the match into the first Super Over of the season as the Sunrisers tied the match.
In the super over, Williamson and Warner posted a target off 8 for the Capitals. In a thrilling finish the Superover too went onto the final ball, before Delhi beat SRH.
With Sunday’s win, Delhi climbed to the second spot on the table with eight points from five matches. Meanwhile, remained seventh with two points from five matches.
