The M Chinnaswamy Stadium, which was established by the patronage of Government of Karnataka in 1969 with the first match played in 1972-73 season, is situated in the heart of the city of Bengaluru, Karnataka, flanked by Cubbon Park and MG Road.
Earlier known as Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) stadium, the venue was renamed after Mangalam Chinnaswamy, who was the BCCI President from 1977 to 1980 and had also served KSCA.
The M Chinnaswamy Stadium has served as home venues to Karnataka state teams, the Indian cricket team and since 2008, when Indian Premier League (IPL) started as a home to the Bengaluru-based franchise - Royal Challengers Bangalore.
And for the first time since 2019, RCB will return to their home as BCCI has announced the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru as one of the venues along with eleven other stadiums in 11 cities across the country for IPL 2023.
KSCA stadium in Bengaluru will host 7 of RCB's home league stage matches. RCB will play their first home match of 2023 against record champions Mumbai Indians in the opening weekend on Sunday (April 2).
Now, we take a look at the Bengaluru M Chinnaswamy Stadium information, T20 and IPL records at the venue ahead of IPL 2023:
Bengaluru M Chinnaswamy Stadium Information
Seating Capacity: 40,000
Ends: Pavilion and BEML
Boundary Dimensions: Small ground, the boundaries ranges between 55-59 metres behind square, 58-65 meters front of square and 68-71 meters straighter boundaries.
Number of matches hosted: 24 Tests, 26 ODIs, 8 T20Is and 88 IPL matches
Known to be batting friendly in the limited overs format thanks to the flat wickets and the small ground dimension, making it a batter's paradise and a bowler's nightmare. But with black soil being used for the wickets recently, the wickets may help the spinners. Going by the record in T20s, the chasing team has had a slight advantage on the wickets at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
It's the Indian summer, and the day will see the temperature rising up to 33o C to 36o C in April, but is expected to get cooler in the nights with temperature reducing as low as 20o C to 23o C. May also will see a similar pattern to April. We may also see summer rains as there is forecast for showers in the end of April and, also start and middle of May.
