Bengaluru, March 9: Kolkata Police on Friday (March 9) charged India pacer Mohammed Shami and his brother with IPC sections related to rape, domestic violence and causing hurt with poison following a complaint by Hasin Jahan, the cricketer's wife.

The IPC sections invoked against the 27-year-old pacer, include 307 (attempt to murder), 498A (domestic violence), 506 (criminal intimidation), 328 (causing hurt by means of poison), 34 (acts by several persons in furtherance of common intention) and 376 (rape). The last section was brought against Shami's elder brother.

"My husband's elder brother, Hasib Ahmad, raped me when I went to my in-law's place in Uttar Pradesh last year," said Jahan on Friday.

Some sections are non-bailable and carry prison terms of 10 years or more.

My wife has lost mental stability: Shami

Rebuffing all the allegations, Shami said the entire incident has mentally disturbed him and he is ready to take legal action against his wife.

"She has lost her mental stability. She has to prove all the allegations made against me. If I have tortured her then she needs to prove it," said Shami addressing a press conference.

"The entire episode is disturbing. I don't know what she is up to. She needs to explain what has changed so much in these few days. She is suddenly leveling all these accusations on me. She is accusing of harassment. She is even accusing me of match-fixing. I think she has lost her mental balance or it might be her game plan to sabotage my career," he said.

"I will also take legal action against her. Me and my family always wanted to stay with her. I have always loved her. You have seen that how happy we were in the interview. But I feel she is planning something evil," he said.

The BCCI has withheld Shami's central contract after the issues with his wife came to light. However, Shami said he has full faith in the BCCI.

"As far as cricket is concerned, I trust the BCCI will check this matter with their legal team and then take a decision on my contract. They must have thought about it before taking this decision," Shami said.
