Chennai, May 23: In a straight knockout match, Lucknow Super Giants host five-time champions Mumbai Indians in IPL 2023 Eliminator at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Wednesday (May 24).
Following wins in their last outings, Krunal Pandya’s third-placed LSG and fourth-placed MI led by Rohit Sharma will both look to carry on their momentum as they look to seal a spot in Qualifier 2, where they will face the loser of Qualifier 1.
While the Eliminator and Qualifier 1 will be held in Chennai, the Qualifier 2 and IPL 2023 Final will be held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad during the weekend.
Heading into the second meeting of the season and the first between the two sides in Chennai, LSG will be a confident side thanks to their previous record against MI. Both teams, however, will be wary of their record at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
In the 3 meetings between the two sides in IPL, LSG has beaten MI on all three occasions. In IPL 2022, LSG rode on skipper KL Rahul hundreds to beat MI by 18 runs in the first fixture and by 36 runs in the reverse fixture.
In 2023 league stage, LSG rode on Marcus Stoinis’ unbeaten 89 to set a total of 177 before Ravi Bishnoi’s 2 for 26 helped restrict MI to 172 for the Lucknow-based side to seal a thrilling 5-run win.
In Chennai at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, LSG and MI will clash for the first time. Both team, however, will have experience of playing at the venue, where they have faced the home side Chennai Super Kings.
