Mohammed Shami controversy: Cricketer spent 2 days in Dubai in February, BCCI tells Kolkata Police

New Delhi, March 20: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has informed the Kolkata Police that India pacer Mohammed Shami stayed in Dubai for two days while returning from South Africa.

The BCCI responded to the letter sent by Kolkata Police, who are investigating the Bengal pacer in connection to match-fixing and various other serious charges framed by his wife Hasin Jahan.

"We have received a letter from BCCI which shows that Mohammed Shami was in Dubai on 17th and 18th February. We are investigating the other things related to it," said Joint CP (crime) Praveen Tripathy was quoted by Indian Express as saying.

The cops are now trying to investigate if the 27-year-old UP born cricketer's visit to Dubai was a personal tour or sponsored by the board.

Shami has been charged under various non-bailable and bailable sections of the IPC, including Section 307 (attempt to murder) and Section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code after his wife filed a police complaint against the cricketer.

Jahan had even accused the cricketer of the being involved in match-fixing with the help of a Pakistani girl named Alishba and he is in contact with a bookie named 'Mohammed Bhai'.

Shami later admitted that he knows a person named 'Mohammed Bhai' but claimed that he's not a bookie. Earlier on Tuesday, Alishba - whom the cricketer's wife accused of being his Pakistani girlfriend - broke her silence and revealed she's just a fan.

Alishba has stressed that she is just a fan of the Indian cricketer and junked the allegations of sexual relations with the pacer and match-fixing. Alishba has maintained that she came in contact with the speedster on social media after 2017 Champions Trophy and they became friends.

"I am one of his followers, which is how I became Shami's friend. Just like he has lakhs of followers, I am one among those normal fans. I have sent him messages," Alishba was quoted as saying by the private news channel as saying.

"As a person, I really like Shami. As any fan that has idolised a celebrity, they always dream of meeting their idol. I have a lot of respect for him and we became good friends. We had a normal conversation," she was quoted further as saying. She further admitted to have met the cricketer in Dubai but that was just friendly meeting and nothing else.
