Pak Senate Sports Committee moves privilege motion against PCB chairman

By Super Admin

Karachi, Feb.13 (ANI): Retaliating against Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB)hairman Ijaz Butt's criticism of the Senate Standing Committee on Sports, the body has now filed a privilege motion against him.

Committee members charged Butt with violating the privilege of the Senate.

"The PCB chairman has passed negative remarks against the sports committee that is tantamount to the breach of privilege of the Senate," The News quoted a member of the committee,Haroon Khan, as saying.

Khan said the petition would be placed in the Senate during its next session which scheduled to be held in March.

"We will get the motion passed by the House next month after which the chairman will be summoned in the Senate to explain his outburst," he added.

It's almost a certainty that the motion will be passed and referred to the Senate's standing committee on Rules of Procedure and Privilege that is headed by Tahir Mashhadi, a strong critic of Butt's policies.

Khan also accused Butt of being ignorant about the committee's authority.

The PCB chairman has failed to comprehend the jurisdiction of the Senate's standing committee on sports, he said.

"We therefore move that due to the contemptuous remarks of the PCB chairman towards the Senate and its committee, the matter may be referred to the Senate's standing committee on Rules of Procedure and Privilege for investigation and consideration," a letter issued by the committee said.

Butt on Wednesday, criticised the Senate committee over their charges on the Board.

Butt said he was answerable only to PCB President Asif Zardari, as he was appointed directly by him.

"They cannot ask me to resign or tell the cricket board to take back Miandad. We are only answerable to the patron and the sports ministry," he said.

"If the patron asks me to resign, I'll quit right away," Butt said. (ANI)
