Pakistan great Javed Miandad hails India skipper Virat Kohli calls him 'a genius'

New Delhi, Feb 8: Former Pakistan batting great Javed Miandad is the latest admirer to applaud batting prowess of the Indian captain Virat Kohli.

Kohli is looking in an ominous form across all formats. The 29-year-old batsman slammed two hundreds in the ongoing ODI series against South Africa and three tons on this tour.

In an interview with pakpassion.net, Miandad hailed Kohli's batting technique, which according to him, helps the Indian batting mainstay score runs at will.

"To me, the mark of a great batsman, like Kohli is the fact that he can vary his technique by quickly understanding the strengths and weaknesses of the bowlers. Kohli is a genius who is the best batsman in the world," Miandad said.

The former Pakistan captain, who has played several incredible knocks for his team and rescued his team from several defeats, feels admires Indian batsmen for their batting technique, which makes them successful.

"What I really admire about Indian batsmen and the reason why they are so successful, is the fact that their batting technique is correct. In Virat Kohli's case his batting method is what allows him to score runs not just once but almost every time he comes in to bat. If a batsman's technique is bad, he can put some runs on the board once in a while, but he will not be able to do that consistently which is exactly true in Kohli's case," Miandad added further.

Kohli on Wednesday (February 7) slammed his 34th century against South Africa in the third ODI and is now behind his idol and batting great Sachin Tendulkar's 49 ODI tons.

Leading from the front, the Indian skipper battled through the tough conditions at Newlands and brilliantly constructed his innings.

Initially, Kohli scored lesser than run a ball but gradually achieved a strike rate of 100.63. Kohli had developed a cramp in his 90s, but realising the importance of his wicket Kohli ensured he stayed until the end and remained unbeaten at 160*.
