PCB fact finding panel to submit Asif case report within fortnight

Lahore, Jun 22 (UNI) Mohammad Asif's fate is hanging in the balance with the PCB's fact finding committee probing his case due to complete its report within two weeks after which the board will decide on a line of action to end the case.

''Until proven guilty Asif is innocent and it all depends on the fact finding committee's report which will be an authentic document to further deal with this case,'' Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Dr Nasim Ashraf said.

''We will have to be a little patient and should avoid making speculations about this sensitive issue,'' he added.

Ashraf stated that the expenses occurred on Asif's case in Dubai will be recovered from the pacer in case the fact finding committee finds him guilty.

''The governing body today unanimously decided that if Asif is found of having committed any wrong or used drugs in this case severe action would be taken against him and all such players. And all such expenses incurred on his case would be paid by Asif,'' Ashraf said.

Asif was held at the Dubai airport on June 1 while returning home from Mumbai after playing in the inaugural Indian Premier League (IPL) and was charged with possessing a small amount of opium.

He returned to Pakistan on Friday after a 19-day detention at Dubai.
