Ponting keen to make fresh start during England tour

By Super Admin

Sydney, June 13(ANI): Australian skipper Ricky Ponting has said that he has used the brief break before the tour of England to sit back and think about his patchy form over the preceding 12 months.

Ponting has not played international cricket since the end of the New Zealand tour nine weeks ago.

"It wasn't my best year last year - probably the most inconsistent year I've had, to tell you the truth, particularly in the Australian summer. I probably played a few games I shouldn't have played through the middle of the summer last year [due to injury], but that's the way it goes," The Sydney Morning Herald quoted Ponting, as saying.

"That year's behind me now. I've got a really big period of cricket coming up with an Ashes series just around the corner and a World Cup soon after," he added.

Ponting also said that he has worked on some issues, which the team needs to implement for success in the next eight to 10 months.

The 35-year-old further insisted that he would be back to his consistent self after a few games in England.

"For me it's just about getting back into the game. I normally play quite well when I'm fresh, so hopefully I can get some runs under my belt in England to start the season off in a good manner," he added. (ANI)
