New Delhi, Sep 5: India cricketer Shikhar Dhawan has shared an image with his mother and said she's recovering well.

The left-handed batsman, who had to cut short his tour of Sri Lanka due to his mother's ill health, thanked his fans for their support.

"Mom is recovering... Her health is much better than before. Thank you every1 fr your support," wrote Dhawan on his Twitter handle.

Dhawan was the top scorer for India in the Test series was also in a good form in the ODI series as well. The southpaw scored 190 runs, including a century, in the four ODI matches he played before returning home.

The 31-year-old amassed 358 runs in three Tests at an average of 89.50, including two centuries, to be adjudged the man of the series.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Saturday (September 2) confirmed that Dhawan will have to leave the tour midway to attend to his ailing mother.

"Opener Shikhar Dhawan would be leaving for India on Sunday to see his ailing mother," a BCCI release said.

Acting secretary Amitabh Chaudhary later said, "Mr Dhawan's mother is stable and is recovering well at the moment."

Dhawan, 31, has been in good form. In the last four ODI matches against Lanka, the left-handed batsman has scored 132 not out in the series opener, then followed it with a 49. However, he failed to touch the double figure mark, five and four, in the next two games.

Ajinkya Rahane opened the innings for India in the fifth and final ODI but the Mumbaikar failed to make an impression in the game as he was dismissed cheaply.

India, however, didn't miss Dhawan as they easily chased down the target of 239 set by Sri Lanka in the fifth ODI and clinched the series 5-0.
