Bengaluru, June 5: It's bilateral relation over bilateral cricket. The Indian Test team's departure for Bangladesh was postponed by a day after the date clashed with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Dhaka for a two-day trip, a report in the New Indian Express said.
The Indian cricket board (BCCI) had earlier said that the team will leave for Dhaka from Kolkata on June 7 but after Bangladeshi cricket authorities raised concern about arranging security for both the Indian PM and the cricket team, the latter's visit was deferred by a day. Modi's two-day visit to the neighbouring country starting Saturday will feature high-level meeting with his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will accompany Modi during the high-profile visit.
India will play one Test against Bangladesh starting June 10 under the captaincy of Virat Kohli and a three-match one-day series will take place between June 18 and 24. Mahendra Singh Dhoni will lead India in the limited-over series. [Full schedule of India-Bangladesh series]
The Indian Test squad will reach Kolkata on June 5 and all players will have to undergo the fitness test, something which has been mandatory in the current era of the BCCI, which has taken a lesson from India's last tour to Australia when two players were forced to return midway because of injury. The BCCI, however, is yet to find a replacement for Nitin Patel, the long-serving physio who quit recently.
