The Indian women's national cricket team got a rousing reception upon their arrival at the airport here from their memorable campaign in the ICC Women's World Cup in England.

Mumbai, July 26: The Indian women's national cricket team got a rousing reception upon their arrival at the airport here from their memorable campaign in the ICC Women's World Cup in England.

Team India under the leadership of Mithali Raj ended up as the runner-ups in the quadrennial global tournament after they were defeated by hosts England in the final on July 23.

India won the hearts of millions of Indian cricket fans for their terrific performance in the ICC tournament.

Fans were gathered in big numbers to welcome the Indian players and give them a warm reception. There were cheers and claps all around at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport as soon as the Women In Blue came out.

The final match between India and England was the most watched match in the history of women's ODI. More than 26,000 people were present at the Lord's to cheer for both the teams and millions across the globe were glued to their television sets.

India lost the match by just 9 runs in the final against England.

The cricketers even acknowledged the crowd for heroes' welcome they deserved. They played only their second World Cup final but unfortunately ended up as the runner ups on both the occasions.

However, the Indian eves impressed with their performances in the ICC event. Mithali Raj, Deepti Sharma, Harmanpreet Kaur, Jhulan Goswami, Punam Raut and Smriti Mandhana were a few names that were on everyone's lips for the brand of cricket they played in the tournament.
