Hyderabad, July 29: Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Friday (July 28) honoured Mithali Raj for her contribution towards Indian cricket.
The CM also announced cash prize of Rs 1 crore and a 600 square yard house plot to the Indian women's cricket team captain. The house plot would be given to her in posh Banjara Hills area in Hyderabad.
Earlier, reports in the media claimed that Raj wasn't given a plot of land promised by the erstwhile government.
Raj was promised a plot of land by former Andhra Pradesh CM YSR Rajasekhar Reddy, but that promise wasn't fulfilled and the state was divided into two. Hyderabad now is the capital of Telangana.
He made the announcements after Mithali Raj called on him upon her return from England, where she led the team to the World Cup finals.
Rao also announced a Rs 25 lakh cash prize for her coach RSR Murthy.
The Chief Minister congratulated Mithali Raj for taking the team to the world cup finals and creating a record by becoming the world's leading run scorer.
"You have played wonderfully at the World Cup. We thought you would sure to win in the final too. Unfortunately, we lost by a slender margin. But yet your team performed well and the whole nation watched your performance. I have also watched the match," a statement from the Chief Minister's office quoted him as saying.
Mithali Raj's parents Dorai Raj and Leela Raj, Director General of Police Anurag Sharma and Hyderabad Police Commissioner Mahender Reddy were also present.
