Atletico Madrid planning legal action against Barcelona

Bengaluru, June 3: La Liga giants Atletico Madrid are reportedly considering legal action against their rivals Barcelona over their pursuit of star striker Antoine Griezmann.

The 28-year-old revealed last month he wants to leave the Wanda Metropolitano in the summer sparking rumours of a move to the Nou Camp. According to radio show El Larguero on leading Spanish station Cadena SER, Atletico are unhappy with Barca in their attempts to snare Griezmann away from Madrid.

They claim that the French World Cup winner began negotiating with the Catalan club in November, before agreeing a deal to join them in March. They state that Atletico has proof that this is the case, with Diego Simeone's side now planning how they can take action.

While they also argue that they are angry the two parties were in talks midway through the season, where Atletico were still in the Champions League before losing to Juventus. Griezmann will be allowed to leave in the summer should a potential suitor cough up his £108million release clause.

Simeone's side have already confirmed that they will be letting the French World Cup winner leave the club in the summer. Fans have already turned against the player, with supporters branding him as a "rat", while others labelled him as a "disgrace". Barcelona aren't the only club looking to nab the ex-Real Sociedad star, with Manchester United understood to be monitoring his current situation.

Meanwhile the player is believed to be furious with Ernesto Valverde's men after reports claimed that the Barcelona squad vetoed the decision to sign him. The La Liga champions are understood to not be prioritising a move for Griezmann, as they consider swapping Philippe Coutinho for their former star forward Neymar.

Griezmann is also right now in the middle of a troublesome situation with Atletico already confirming his departure and the fans turning against him and Barcelona reportedly not interested in him at the moment but it will be a great opportunity for Manchester United who are without Champions League football in the next season.
