London, May 18 (ANI): Manchester United manager is of the view that Real Madrid's trouncing by Barcelona in La Liga convinced striker Cristiano Ronaldo to stay on at Old Trafford.
Barca stuffed Real 6-2 a couple of weeks ago at the Bernabeu and Ronaldo had the mickey taken out of him by his Manchester United teammates.
"After Barca battered Real Madrid 6-2, our players were telling Cristiano that if he goes to the Bernabeu he'll have to play centre-half!", The Sun quoted Fergie, as saying.
On the day a record-equalling 18th title was celebrated at Old Trafford, Real lost to Villarreal in Spain to hand the La Liga crown to United's Champions League final foes Barca.
The World Player of the Year is once again Real's No 1 transfer target this summer.
But Ronaldo said: "I'm looking forward and proud to be in the history of this team."
This was the Portuguese winger's third Premier League title and he said: "It's not easy to win three times, the lads worked for that. It's a special, special moment. We have to enjoy the moment." (ANI)
