Bayern enter the race for Arsenal target

Bengaluru, July 23: Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich have reportedly joined the race for Wilfried Zaha which will come as a huge blow to Arsenal.

The German giants are determined to sign a top winger this summer but have missed out on a number of key targets.

Bayern's top target Callum Hudson-Odoi looks set to stay at Chelsea and sign a new £100,000-a-week contract at Stamford Bridge, despite trying to force through a move to the Allianz Arena in January.

And the Bavarians have also had no better luck in trying to land Manchester City winger Leroy Sane.

The Premier League holders wanted £90million for the German star, who has played a key role in their back-to-back Premier League titles wins. And now, according to reports, Crystal Palace star Zaha is their next target as they look to replace veteran duo Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben.

The Ivorian international revealed in April that he wants to leave his boyhood club to play in the Champions League. And while Arsenal will only be able to offer Europa League football next season, Bayern will be trying to win the Champions League.

Arsenal boss Unai Emery wants to sign Zaha, who grew up supporting the Gunners, while Palace are understood to prefer to sell to Liverpool or Manchester City.

The North Londoners made a £40m bid that was immediately rejected by the Eagles, who value their star man at a staggering £80m.

Attempts to convince the Eagles to accept a number of Arsenal fringe players failed with the Selhurst Park determined to get the right price, especially because they must pay Manchester United 25 percent of the transfer fee.

Unlike Arsenal, who are on the brink of signing Dani Ceballos on loan, Bayern have the financial capacity to strike a deal.

While £80m still seems a lot, the Bavarian side will surely be able to offer more to Crystal Palace than Arsenal are offering.

Bayern Munich are also among the favourites to sign Gareth Bale this summer.

The Real Madrid man is not wanted by Zinedine Zidane, who launched a stinging verbal attack on the Welshman this weekend.

A move to China, where he could become the first £1m-a-week footballer, looks the more likely option at this stage though.
