Bayern Munich give up chase for Premier League star

Bayern Munich coach Niko Kovac keen to replace veteran wingers Ribery and Robben

Bengaluru, July 19: Premier League giants Chelsea have been handed a huge boost after Bayern Munich shelved their plans to sign their primary target Callum Hudson-Odoi, according to reports in England.

The German champions made the England international their top transfer priority in their search for a new winger and made bids of up to £35million last season in January.

New Blues boss Frank Lampard has been desperate in his bid to convince the 18-year-old to pen a new contract at the club ever since he joined the London giants.

The youngster's current deal expires next summer and Hudson-Odoi holds all the cards knowing clubs across Europe will be scrambling for a bargain. But it appears increasing likely that the forward will commit his long-term future to the club in a deal worth around £100,000-a-week.

According to reports, Bayern have given up on their hopes of signing him knowing they are fighting a losing battle. The news will delight Lampard, who spoke of his intentions to keep Hudson-Odoi and work with him closely.

He said: "What I do know is that the club want Callum to sign. He’s a player who has come through the academy and broken into the England squad and is of course potentially a huge player now and in the future.

"Callum knows how I feel. I’ve spoken to Callum, I think he can be absolutely central to this team there is work to be done, a lot of improvement, which is only good news for all of us.

"He’s a really big talent. The fans love him here and we want young players. You can see others are signing up around him and it’s hopefully something that is going to be done.

"I haven’t seen too much of him I’ve spoken to him a couple of times because I want him to know how I feel.

"I have a real care for the players at this club, particularly the young ones. I think it’s important that I show that and then the decision will be his and the club’s together."

A new deal will mean he will be set to join Mason Mount and Ruben Loftus-Cheek as homegrown talents committing their futures to the club.
