Berlin, March 13: Borussia Dortmund are lining up Huddersfield Town boss David Wagner to replace Peter Stoger as head coach with a surprise move, according to reports in England.

Since Jurgen Klopp's exit, Dortmund are yet to replicate the usual dominance they achieved under the current Liverpool boss.

Although, Klopp's successor Tuchel gave them their first silverware in three years with a DFB Pokal win, however, he was sacked the following season after contradiction with management.

His heir Bosz did not survive until the end of the current season and was sacked after five months this term for unstable display and the Bundesliga side appointed former FC Koln manager Peter Stoger.

Under Stoger, Dortmund have somehow steadied the ship but according to reports, the Dortmund hierarchy is concerned at the progress of the club under the current boss.

Dortmund currently lie third in the league, well-off leaders Bayern Munich, and staring at an embarrassing Europa League exit at the hands of Red Bull Salzburg.

Therefore, for the next season, they are reportedly looking at their former academy head coach, current manager of Premier League Huddersfield town David Wagner to replace him.

Wagner was appointed the manager of Borussia Dortmund II in 2011 and previously worked as a coach with his former Mainz teammate Jurgen Klopp in Signal Iduna Park.

After four years with BVB, Wagner finally left Dortmund and joined Huddersfield at Championship in 2015.

The USA man surprised everyone last season when he carried an underdog Huddersfield side to the promotion that too without spending a good fortune. His side are currently struggling in the Premier League, placed 15th in the league, however, Wagner’s contributions have not gone unnoticed.

Huddersfield management although have ensured that Wagner's position at the side is stable and they are planning long-term future with him, however, having strong links with his former club if they come calling this summer Wagner would have to make a tough decision.
