Champions League preview: Liverpool face tricky test at Salzburg

Eight places in the last 16 are still up for grabs.

Bengaluru, December 10: The UEFA Champions' League group stage returns with the penultimate Match Day 6 as Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Juventus, RB Leipzig, Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur are already through while half of the places in the round-of-16 still hang in the balance.

Defending champions Liverpool are yet to make the cut as eight places are still up for grabs for the knockout phase.

The Reds face a tricky away test at Salzburg and they need to avoid defeat to progress to the pre-quarterfinals.

The last time the holders of the UEFA Champions League failed to make it past the group stage was in 2012-13, and Liverpool will be desperate to escape the fate suffered by their domestic rivals Chelsea.

While Juventus has tied up top spot in UEFA Champions' League Group D, there is an almighty battle developing for second place and a spot in the lucrative knockout stages of the tournament.
