Ghana Coach: Egypt should not be over reliant on Mohamed Salah

New Delhi, Dec 14: Fellow African competitor Ghana national team coach James Kwesi Appiah has advised Egypt national team to get past of the over-reliance on their star forward Mohammed Salah in the coming World Cup.

Egypt faced Ghana in the group stage matches in their fight for a place in the world Cup and in both the matches they failed to defeat the Pharaohs. Salah's team eventually topped the group to make their birth to next year's World Cup third time.

And in their last match day, the Egyptian made a dramatic finish to end the game as Salah scored a last-gasp penalty t win the game 2-1 which secured their ticket to Russia 2018.

Salah joined the Reds for £39million from Roma in the summer and has been the most influential player for the Kops. The 25-year-old has netted 19 goals in 25 appearances for Liverpool, six in the champions league and 13 in the Premier League to be the current top scorer.

He also finished as top goal scorer of the African zone third round qualifiers with five goals and mostly single-handedly took Egypt to the World Cup. Earlier he also inspired his national side to make it to the final of the African Cup of Nations in Gabon only to lost to Cameroon.

But now their African opponent, Ghana coach has warned them to be less dependent on the forward to deliver and advised them to play a unit to succeed in the coming World Cup.

“We played Egypt but as I said, all the time all their attacking machinery is dependent on one player," Appiah, whose Ghana side lost to mighty Pharaohs in Group E, told Kwese Free Sports.

“This is not the best because once he is closed down, then this becomes a problem.

“If they can work on some stuff and get two or three players that are playing at the highest level, then automatically team’s won’t plan only against Salah but for others as well."

Egypt have been drawn in Group A consists of Russia, Saudi Arabia and Uruguay and will open their campaign against Latin American side Uruguay.
