New Delhi, Feb 9: Indian young prodigy Dheeraj Singh Moirangthem's trail at Scottish side Motherwell FC seemed to have gone down very well as the player in his first day of the trial has been straight sent to the training side of the squad.

India Under-17 World Cup team's goalkeeper, on Wednesday (February 7) left for the United Kingdom to undergo a trial with Scottish Premiership club Motherwell FC.

The young goalkeeper from Manipur was part of the All India Football Federation's developmental side Indian Arrows in the I-League last year. But after making six appearances for them, he decided not to renew his contract at the end of 2017 to leave for Scotland.

The shot-stopper reportedly handpicked the offer from Motherwell FC, snubbing a few clubs in Australia, Canada and Spain (second division).

Dheeraj, who was a standout performer for the country at the World Cup, made the journey with agent Anuj Kichlu from The Football Edge. In Scotland, he will train with the first team of Motherwell FC for about three weeks. After the brief stint, the club will take a call on handing Dheeraj a contract.

However, just after the first day at trial, it seems like, the youngster has already impressed the Scottish side and as a reward, the player has been involved directly into the training squad, the club announced.

"Indian Under 17 international goalkeeper Dheeraj Singh Moirangthem started his trial with the club on Thursday and was straight into training with the team. Dheeraj was a standout at last year's FIFA U17 World Cup," Motherwell FC announced this on their social media handle.

Should he succeed to get a contract at the Scottish club, he will follow the footstep of current Indian number one Gurpreet Singh Sandhu who became the first Indian to play in a European first division league, when he signed for Norway’s Stabaek in 2014.

The Indian keeper appeared in a UEFA Europa League qualifying round match and overall spent three years as one of the backup keepers of the Norway side before again turning to head towards Indian football this season with Bengaluru FC in the ISL.
