Euro 2020 winners Italy face Copa America 2021 winner Argentina in 2022 Finalissimo

2020 Euro champions Italy take on 2021 Copa America champions Argentina in an inter confederation one-off match named Finalissima (Grand Final in Italian) at the Wembley Stadium in London, England on Wednesday (June 1).

2022 Finalissima is a showdown agreed after the two confederations - UEFA and CONMEBOL signed a renewed and extended Memorandum of Understanding on December 15, 2021.

This will be a third such fixture with the earlier ones played in 1985 and 1993 named the Artemio Franchi Cup (European/South American Nations Cup). In 1985, France defeated Uruguay 2-0 at home in Paris, while Argentina edged out Denmark on penalties at home in Mar del Plata.

While the earlier two inter confederation matches between the champions of Europe and South America were played at one of the home venues of the playing teams, 2022 Finalissima will be played at a neutral venue.

Italy booked their place in the 2022 Finalissima by defeating England on penalties in the Euro 2020 final, while Argentina ended a 28-year wait for a trophy by winning the 2021 Copa America, beating Brazil 1-0 in the summit clash.

Superstar forward Lionel Messi will lead Argentina coached by Lionel Scaloni, while veteran defender Giorgio Chiellini will lead the Italian side managed by Roberto Mancini.
