Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp interested in Portuguese winger

Bengaluru, December 1: Premier League giants Liverpool are said considering a £53.5million move for Sporting Lisbon winger Gelson Martins, according to reports in England and Portugal.

Portuguese news outlet A Bola claim the Reds have identified the 22-year-old as a top target. They even tried to land the Portuguese international back in the summer but failed to convince the Portuguese side to sale their prized asset.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp wants more depth in his attack to compete with the likes of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino and Martins has been identified as a player who could offer the Reds a lot.

On top of that, Liverpool attacking midfielder Philippe Coutinho and in-form winger Mohamed Salah are wanted by a host of clubs and the Reds are said to preparing for options if either of the two leaves the club.

Portugal international Martins already has five goals to his name in all competitions this season and plays with a similar style to Salah and Mane and his raw pace makes him an ideal player in Liverpool’s system.

Reports claim Liverpool were put off by his £53.5m buyout clause in the summer but may now reconsider as to get quality these days, ever club has to spend.

Serie A giants Juventus are also said to have joined them in the race for his signature after playing against Martins' Sporting in the Champions League last month.

Liverpool will however hope that they do not have to sign Gelson Martins as a replacement of Mohamed Salah who has fired all cylinders since his move to Liverpool having scored 17 goals in all competitions already.

The Egyptian was once again on the scoresheet last night despite coming off the bench. He netted a brace against Stoke to help his side win the game 3-0 despite playing just 23 minutes.
