Manchester United interested in Jean Michael Seri of Nice

London, Jan 24: Having completed the star-studded signing of Alexis Sanchez just this week, Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is said to have turned attention to midfield reinforcements and according to reports, the Red Devils are now weighing up a deal to sign Nice midfielder Jean Michael Seri.

Seri has been on the radar of a number of clubs including Premier League rivals Chelsea, Liverpool however as per reports, it is United who have now shown their noticeable interest in the player and are now leading the race.

Seri was earlier linked with Barcelona in the Summer and it was believed that a deal took place. However, somehow at the last moment, the Barcelona board backed out and the player remained at Ligue 1.

And now reportedly, United are looking for the 26-year-old who is believed to have a release clause of around £33m in his contract, which expires at the end of next season.

United are in the market for a midfielder after it appeared that their star player Marouane Fellaini is reluctant to sign a new deal and would leave the club next year whereas veteran Michael Carrick could also end his playing career after this season.

This has forced United to look for a midfielder and Mourinho is reportedly looking at the Ivory Coast player as the new addition to the squad and eager to trigger the release clause as early as in this window.

However, the deal is allegedly only planned for a Summer move and after the signature, the player will be sent back to Nice where he will spend the rest of the season.

The box-to-box midfielder is also reportedly preferring a move to Old Trafford who has been at the Ligue 1 club since 2015 after joining them from Portuguese side Pacos de Ferreira.

The 26-year-old has been impressive in all the three campaigns till now for the French side and played 88 matches for them in the league, scoring 11 goals and assisting further 19.
