Manchester United to reignite interest in Blaise Matuidi

Italian TV station Rai Sport claim that the Red Devils are ready to try and tempt the French midfielder to Old Trafford but Juventus are reluctant to sell him.

Kolkata, March 14: Premier League giants Manchester United are reportedly ready to go back for their long term target Blaise Matuidi, a year after losing out on him to Serie A champions Juventus.

The Frenchman joined the Italian giants last summer from PSG and has become one of their key players this season. The 30-year-old has made 36 appearances this season and has scored twice and has as many assists in a strong first campaign.

Italian TV station Rai Sport claim that the Red Devils are ready to try and tempt the French midfielder to Old Trafford but Juventus are reluctant to sell him. But the report claims United have made contact with his agent, Mino Raiola, over a potential move.

Raiola represents a number of United players including Romelu Lukaku and was the man in the middle for Paul Pogba's then-world record £89million switch.

He also brokered Henrikh Mkhitaryan's move to Old Trafford from Borussia Dortmund but the Armenian failed to live up to expectations and eventually joined Arsenal later.

It is claimed that Raiola has given some hope to United that he can try and convince the player and Juventus that the move is worth it.

Matuidi's contract runs out in 2020 and he will not come cheap if United want to bring him to the Premier League.

However, United lack depth in the midfield department and will want to add to their squad in the summer to try and compete with Manchester City next season.

Michael Carrick is set to retire while Paul Pogba has been in the medical room recently and Marouane Fellaini's future at the club also remains doubtful, and someone experienced like Matuidi can be a big boost to the Red Devils.
