Mesut Ozil finally explains his decision to sign new Arsenal contract

London, March 14: Mesut Ozil has suggested that he never considered leaving Arsenal because he never wanted to uproot the family from London whereas he still has some unfinished business at Arsenal.

The German world cup winner only had five months left on his contract and there were reports surfacing that the player is not willing to tie himself down with a new deal at Arsenal, potentially linking with a reunion with former manager Jose Mourinho at Manchester United next Summer as a free transfer.

But dissing all the probabilities, the midfielder has put months of uncertainty behind him by signing a new deal last month until 2021, turning down offers from the likes Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United and even a cash-rich move to China and now reportedly earns a thumping £350,000 a week wage to make him Arsenal's highest paid player.

And now the former Real Madrid player breaking his silence over the new contract situation has suggested that his love for the North London side and eagerness to win more trophies opted him to make an easy decision, that is to sign a contract extension at the club.

“It feels really good,” he told Arsenal Player. “I’m really happy to sign here for such a big club like Arsenal. I’ve always said to the club that I’m happy here and now I’ve signed, I’m really happy.

“My team-mates and family have always supported me. I have a lot of goals here with the team, I want to reach those and I’m really happy.

“I love the city. Before I signed the contract, I spoke with my family about what the best decision was for me. At the end of the day, it was really easy for me to say yes to the club. I’m here for more years and I hope we will win some titles with the team. I believe in that.”

Ozil has not been a regular in the Arsenal squad this season because of some injury issues however still has contributed five goals and 10 assists from his 29 outings in all competitions this season.

And with their star player Alexis Sanchez leaving the club, it will be now up to the 29-year-old playmaker to show his worth in Sanchez's absence and thrive under the responsibility of being Arsenal's most important player.
