London, February 4: Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher, now a pundit, has suggested that Philippe Coutinho is not worth the price that Barcelona paid for his transfer from Liverpool and insisted that Jurgen Klopp should have retained the player at least till the next summer.
Since the beginning of the season, Brazilian Coutinho was a distracted man at Liverpool following reports that the La Liga side attempted to sign him. Liverpool rejected all offers from Barcelona back then and refused to buckle to the player’s demands.
However, tempation got the better of them in the January window. They could not turn down the bid in the range of £142 million and sold the playmaker to Barcelona in the first week of January.

The Premier League side strengthened their squad with that money by adding defender Virgil van Dijk for a club-record fee of £75 million.
But according to Carragher, Liverpool's transfer policy is baffling. Carragher told Skysports: “I think if you lose your best player, there’s no way you can dress it up as a positive window.
“I think every Liverpool fan, when Philippe Coutinho stayed in the summer, thought 'okay, we know he’s leaving next season. Lets enjoy this 12 months’.
Not everything is going to plan for Philippe Coutinho here...👀

“To lose him mid-season, I don’t agree with it but for that fee… Coutinho’s not worth that. He’s not that good.
“I would have taken £20m-£30m less in the summer to know that Liverpool would have had him for the second half of the season because at that time, we were still in the FA Cup, still a Champions League to play for.”
The Brazilian scored 12 goals and provided eight assists in all competitions this season for Liverpool before he made the switch. So far, he has only made one start in the La Liga for Barcelona.
