Muller demands killer mentality from Bayern at Bernabeu

Bayern Munich suffered more Champions League heartache at the hands of Real Madrid but Thomas Muller believes they can turn the tie around.

Munich, April 26: Thomas Muller wants Bayern Munich to show a clinical edge against Real Madrid next week after a wasteful showing at the Allianz Arena left them chasing their Champions League semi-final tie.

Marcelo and Marco Asensio scored either side of half-time to cancel out Joshua Kimmich's brilliant opener and give Madrid their sixth consecutive win over Bayern in Europe's top competition.

It may well have been a different story if Jupp Heynckes' men had taken their chances, with Muller and top scorer Robert Lewandowski among the culprits.

"That was a very good game of ours, [the best for] for a long time," the Germany forward told reporters.

"But we were not clinical enough, something that we have been good at in recent weeks.

"So we let Real be alive and even helped them to score their second goal. At half time I had to smile to myself because we had so many chances."

Nevertheless, Muller is not giving up on the prospect of going through in the Spanish capital, where Bayern were 2-1 up after 90 minutes last season before collapsing following Arturo Vidal's red card in extra time.

"It is very hard to live with this match," he added. "But still it showed us what is possible against this team from Madrid.

"We won't be lacking opportunities to score, that is for sure. But we need to show less respect when we have the chance to score because that is not necessary."

"We don't give up. We won in Madrid 2-1. But we need a different killer mentality."
