Will Real Madrid be able to defend the Champions League title this season?

Madrid, March 14: Real Madrid have recently beaten Paris Saint-Germain to progress to the quarter-final of the Champions League. But the season is not going according to the plan for the previous season's Champions League holders.

They are 15 Points behind the League Leaders Barcelona with only 10 games left. So, literally there is no chance for Real Madrid to win the La Liga this season. On the other hand, they are also out of the contention of the Copa Del Rey following a defeat against Leganes in that competition.

Now, their only hope of winning one silverware this season is remaining in the Champions League and they will be desperate to win it. Real Madrid finished at the second position in the Group table of the Champions League.

So, they had to play against one of the most star-studded teams in world football right now in the round of 16. Paris Saint-Germain were considered to be the favourites to go through to next round from the tie according to many football pundits.

In the first leg of the clash, PSG also got the early away goal in the first-half at Santiago Bernabeu. But, Real Madrid came back in the match with a brilliant spot-kick of Cristiano Ronaldo.

In the second half of the first leg, Zinedine Zidane's change in strategy worked well for Real Madrid. He brought Gareth Bale, Marco Asensio and Lucas Vazquez in to increase the pace of the counter attacks. It proved to be a great move as Cristiano Ronaldo and Marcelo's Goal ensured their win in the first leg with a margin of 3-1.

In the second leg, PSG needed to come back from a 2 goal deficit. Without the presence of Neymar, they never looked to have any chance to make it.

Ronaldo's brilliant header and Casemiro's Goal were enough for Real Madrid to go through to the next round of the Champions League. Now, the Madrid giants could be considered as one of the potential contenders to win the Champions League.

The experience of playing many times in the knockout stage of the Champions League is going to be vital for Real Madrid. With no pressure of the other competitions, Real Madrid will be more focused to win the title and that is why they are ahead of the other top European clubs to clinch the title once again in this season.
