India hosted the multi-nation event for the second consecutive time but in two cities i.e. Bhubaneswar and Rourkela. 16 nations participated in the tournament where two-time champions Germany defeated holders Belgium in penalty shootout and won their third trophy after a gap of 17 years. Australia suffered a defeat at the hands of the Netherlands in the bronze medal game. Hosts India lost to New Zealand in the crossover round to bow out prematurely from the tournament before the quarterfinals and finished ninth after beating South Africa 2-0 in their last game.
