Women's Hockey World Cup 2022: India Squad, Schedule, Results, Points Table, TV Channel & Live Streaming Info

India will be part of Pool B in the Womens Hockey World Cup 2022

The FIH Women's Hockey World Cup 2022 will take place across two venues at Terrassa in Spain and Amstelveen in Netherlands, starting with the pool stages from (Friday) July 1 and will conclude with the final on July 17.

The 15th edition of the women's hockey world cup will feature 16 teams divided into 4 pools of 4 teams. In the pool stage, a team will face the other three from their respective pool in single round robin matches with the pool winners earning direct entry to the quarter-finals.

Meanwhile, the next two best placed teams of each pool will move to the cross overs, which will be a knock out match deciding the remaining four quarter finalists. The 4th placed team of each pool will then face losers of the cross overs for place classification.

As for pools, India have been drawn along with England, New Zealand and China in Pool B, while record title-holders and co-hosts Netherlands have been drawn in Pool A with former champion Germany, Ireland and Chile.

The other co-host Spain have been drawn alongside two-time champion Argentina, South Korea and Canada in Pool C, while Pool D consists of two-time champion Australia, Belgium, Japan and South Africa.

Pool C and Pool D will play their matches at the Estadi Olimpic de Terrassa in Terrassa, Spain, while Pool A and Pool B will play their matches at the Wagener Stadium in Amstelveen, Netherlands.

There will be a total of 44 matches including the classification, cross-overs and the knock out rounds. The semifinal, third place play-off and final matches will take place in Terrassa.

India, who finished fourth in the inaugural edition in 1974, will look to better their best ever finish at the show-piece event. In the absence of Rani Rampal, goalkeeper Savita Punia is set to lead the 20-member Indian squad.

How are pools ranked in Hockey World Cup 2022?

How are pools ranked in Hockey World Cup 2022?

Tournament Regulations as per FIH:

2.1 In each pool, all the teams will play against each other, and the following points will be awarded

for each match :

- three points to the winner;

- one point to each team, in the event of a draw;

- no points to the loser.

2.2 In In each pool, teams will be ranked according to the number of points each has accumulated in the competition.

a. If at the end of the pool matches two or more teams have the same number of points for any place in a pool, these teams will be ranked according to their respective number of matches won.

b. If there remains equality among two or more teams, then these teams will be ranked according to their respective goal difference (which means "goals for" less "goals against"). A positive goal difference always takes precedence over a negative one.

c. If there still remains equality among two or more teams, then these teams will be ranked according to their respective number of "goals for"'.

d. Should there still remain equality among two teams, then the result of the match played between those teams will determine the ranking of the tied teams.

e. If more than two teams are involved, then a ranking based upon the results of the matches among (only) them shall determine their respective position, based upon the points awarded in accordance with Article 1 of this appendix. If there remains equality, then the teams involved shall be ranked according to Articles 2.2.a, b, c, and d of this Appendix.

f. If there still remains equality among two or more teams, then these teams will be ranked according to the number of Field Goals scored in the pool matches.

g. Should there still remain equality among two teams, then the ranking will be determined by a shoot-out competition between those teams (for details see Appendix 4 of these Regulations).

h. If more than two teams are involved, then each team will play a shoot-out competition against the other teams in the same sequence of play as the order of play in the competition, in accordance with Appendix 4 of these Regulations but with one round of 5 shoot-outs only to be taken compulsorily by each team.

i. A ranking will then be established based upon the results of the round of the shoot-out competition only, with the award for each play of 3 points to the team having scored the highest number of goals, 1 point to each team having scored an equal number of goals and 0 points to the team having scored the lowest number of goals.

j. If equality remains then teams having an equal number of points shall be ranked according to Articles 2.2.a, b, c and d as applied to goals recorded during the shoot-out competition.

k. If an equal position of three (or more) teams still remains thereafter, then the same procedure shall be repeated until the teams can be ranked. The Technical Delegate shall make a draw to establish each sequence of play if such further rounds of shoot-outs are required.
