Paris: Olympic track champion Marie Jose Perec left Sydney late on Wednesday for an undisclosed destination, a French television station quoted the athlete's agent in Paris as saying.
The French athlete decided to leave her hotel room after receiving threats, said TF1. It did not elaborate.
Perec, who won the 200 and 400 metres gold medals at the 1996 Atlanta Games, was due to enter the 400 metres heats at the Sydney Olympics on Friday.
Perec has hardly competed this year and had refused to talk in public since arriving in Sydney.
