3-day All India Marathi Sports Literary meet tomorrow

Pune, Apr 29 (UNI) The maiden three-day All India Marathi Sports Literature Sammelan will be held here from tomorrow.

A ''granth dindi (books procession)'' will be organised on the inaugural day. Floats too would be taken out that will depict the nine disciplines of sports to be held under the 2008 Commonwealth Youth Games (CYG) here.

That apart, an exhibition of cartoons and photographs by 100 renowned cartoonists and sports photographers will also be held.

Recently formed Maharashtra Marathi Sports Journalist Association (MMSJA) president Pralhad Sawant told reporters that Indian Olympic Association (IOA) chief Suresh Kalmadi, the presidents of the nine disciplines of games that will be competed in the 2008 CYG, and Padmashri, Arjuna, Chhatrapati and other awardees will be riding on the floats.

The main aim behind organising the rally is to encourage people from Pune to participate enthusiastically in making the CYG a success, Mr Sawant said.

The rally will be accompanied by musical bands, ''tutari'' and ''dhol'' troupes and ''lezim'' players .

The ''sammelan'' will be formally inagurated on May one at the hands of Union Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde.

A series of twelve seminars have been planned during the three-day event. Among the subjects to be dealt at the seminar are ''Development of sports literature in regional languages'', ''Sports Medicine'', ''Sports in Maharashtra'', ''Reservation for women in sports'', and others.
