America's Lilly King breaks women's 50m breaststroke world record

King breaks the world record in 50m breaststroke in FINA at 29.04, the previous record was owned by Ruta Meilutyte of Lithuania at 29.48 in 2013.

Budapest, July 30: Lilly King of the United States broke the women's 50 metre breaststroke world record with 29.40 seconds at the 17th FINA World Championships here on Sunday (July 30).

The previous record was owned by Ruta Meilutyte of Lithuania at 29.48 in 2013, reports Xinhua news agency.

It was King's third gold medal in Budapest after 100m breaststroke and mixed 4x100m medley relay.


Yuliya Efimova of Russia finished runner-up with 29.57 seconds, while the bronze went to Katie Meili of the United States at 29.99.
