Bindra omitted from the CWG, may quit shooting

New Delhi, Jan 16: India's sole Olympic gold medalist Abhinav Bindra said that he is considering quitting the game as he is 'tired of fighting the system', a major newspaper report said.

“The present situation has made me very upset and does not leave me with much motivation," Bindra said.

Close associates said that the ace shooter may consider quitting the game as he had encountered a rigid, illogical protocol innumerable times.

Bindra's name does not figure in the national team for the Commonwealth games in Delhi.

National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) ommited Bindra's name from the national shooting squad stating that the Olympic champion did not turn up for regular trials.

However, Bindra who was undergoing training abroad for the last six months, came back from Germany in Dec 2009, to attend the trials. But it was postponed at the last minute.

Bindra's request to tha NRAI and Sports Ministry to allow him undergo a similar preparation that he underwent prior to the Beijing Olympics in 2008 has not been responded till Friday, Jan 15.

“I don"t see any chance of future success if I"m not allowed to prepare in a certain way that has worked for me and is what my professional team and I have planned," Bindra said.

Meanwhile, NRAI senior vice-president Avtar Singh Sethi said that they will ask the Sports Ministry to look into the matter.

“We are going to ask the Sports Ministry to consider his international competition scores in lieu of trials. There will be a meeting in a few days."

But Bindra has stated ignorance of such developments.
