USA Vs Algeria: Brief Preview

By Anmolg

Pretoria: A crucial game for both Algeria and USA as they face each other in their Group C match at Pretoria.

USA has come out with good football in their recent match. They were two goal down against Slovenia but made a superb comeback to level against them in their most recent match. They are currently placed second in the Group B and will be looking out for a victory against the Arab side who are placed at the bottom of the table. USA have had a positive approach in the tournament so far and have managed to come back twice in both the matches that they have played. The likes of Clint Dempsey and Landon Donovan in midfield play have come good so far and they would be hoping to outrun the Algerian side and come out with a victory, which will automatically see them through the knockout stages.

The Algeria side at the other end have not been up to the standards so far. They just have sum total of three shots on target in their two matches. They are the only team in the group that has not managed to find the back of the net.

However, the sole Arab representative nation can beat the odds and create a big upset. The Arab side has to beat USA and also hope that the English side lose against Slovenia for them to qualify in the last 16, which looks highly unlikely but not impossible ofcourse.

Madjid Bougherra made a lasting impression in Algeria's second match against England. He was as solid as a rock against the English attack which looked out of sorts. Now, he will be up against his former Rangers team-mate Maurice Edu when they face against USA in their final group match.

Players to watch out for:

Algeria: Hassan Yebda, Abdelkader Ghezzal,

USA: Jozy Altidore, Clint Dempsey, Landon Donovan
