New Delhi, July 28: Manu Bhaker is new kid on the block in the Indian rifle shooting fraternity. The 15-year old girl from Jhajjhar, Haryana has drawn the attention of the country's top shooters after the last national championship, held in Pune in December 2016.

Manu participates in two events: 25 meter and 10 meter. Both are in pistol shooting category.

In the national championship, Manu struck gold in the 25 meter and finished fourth in 10 meter. It was her first senior national championship.

Her father Ramkisan Bhaker speaking from Jhajjhar on Thursday, said, “The country's Olympian pistol shooters like Jitu Rai, Heena Sindhu, had competed in the national championship. At the end of the 10 meter shooting Jitu Rai looked ecstatic. He came to Manu and hugged her claimed that she will be one of the country's best pistol shooters one day.

"Rai also gave vital advices to my daughter. We were simply moved by the gesture shown by country's one of the best pistol shooters."

But at the same time, Ramkisan was little bit upset to have seen Heena Sidhu's attitude towards his daughter.

He added, “Hina did not look at Manu even while walking beside her after the 10 meter. Being such a top shooter and Olympian I expected that Hina would also encourage her."

Actually, according to a few other shooters who also were present in Pune senior national championship, Manu bettered her score than Heena Sidhu for once during the 10 meter shooting competition and that might have created envy in Heena's mind and that could be a reason why she ignored the teenager.

The girl who used to practice boxing and judo before she started pistol shooting at her Universal School in Goria village, has also won medals in those disciplines.

The girl however has a major obstacles that she still does not have her own pistol.

Her father said, “I have to rent pistol and bullets for her everyday training at school and at Dr Karni Singh Range in New Delhi. We travel almost 140 kilometers from Jhajjhar to Delhi on every Saturday and Sunday. It costs almost Rs 8,000 to Rs 9,000 in total. So I am desperately trying to buy an imported pistol from Germany so that I can avoid these recurring expenses."
