Bengaluru, March 15: Former boxer Paulie Malignaggi feels Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather will have a rematch, but not under MMA rules and he says if it happens, it will be in a boxing ring.

McGregor's former sparring partner Malignaggi reckons Mayweather will defeat the UFC champion like the last time with ease and claimed the undefeated boxer beat 'The Notorious' without much training.

The Irishman took on Mayweather Jr in a big money fight last August, in which McGregor proved the critics wrong by lasting for at least ten rounds before fatigue played spoil sport to allow Mayweather to register his 50th professional victory via TKO.

Just as the fight concluded, the speculation of rematch between the pair began and it became very hight after Mayweather hinted that he's ready to move to mixed martial arts world.

However, the boxer dismissed his chances of being involved in a potential MMA bout with McGregor, saying: "I already beat Conor."

Many feel, the recent activity of Mayweather on social media may be trying to lure McGregor back into the boxing ring for another huge payday, which of course will add to the bounty of the UFC star as well.

Malignaggi calims McGregor will suffer another defeat to Mayweather should the pair meet again, but he's pretty sure the bout will not be under MMA rules.

"I don't know," Malignaggi told Express Sport. "You never know if it's going to be a boxing match. It was pretty easy for Floyd.

"Floyd literally won the fight without training. I mean, he literally won the fight without barely training for the fight.

"When it's free money like that, you never know. People are stupid enough to by it."

Malignaggi, however, isn't sure if McGregor will box Mayweather again, but he's confident Maywether won't enter the Octagon.

He added: "He's definitely not going to fight him in the cage, though."

The 29-year-old McGregor hasn't fought in the UFC since his historic victory over Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205, which saw him become the first fighter to hold two titles simultaneously in the promotion.

The Notorious is expected to take on the winner of Tony Ferguson vs Khabib Nurmagomedov in his first fight back in the promotion. The lightweight contenders meet each other for the title in the main event of UFC 223 on April 7.
