Hyderabad, Jul 17 (UNI) Oman staged a strong comeback to defeat Singapore 5-1 (2-1) and secure the seventh spot in the 6th Asian Junior Hockey Championships here today.
Oman, who were leading 2-1 at the break, stepped up their attacks in the second half to slam in three more goals.
Singapore had snatched an early lead when Yuhari converted a penalty corner in the 10th minute.
Yasir Jan Al Balushi of Oman levelled the score in the 15th minute when he capitalised on a good pass from Basim Rajab.
Oman grabbed the lead in the 33rd minute through Salah Al Saadi's deflection off a Basim Rajab pass from the left.
In the second half, Oman completely outplayed Singapore.
They increased the margin in the 61st minute through a field goal by Basim Rajab off a pass from Al Balushi.
Al Balushi was again in the thick of things a couple of minutes later when he slammed in a field goal (4-1).
In the 66th minute, Basim Rajab scored from a penalty corner to complete the tally.
Malaysia will take on Bangladesh for 5th and 6th place match later in the evening.
