Sushil Kumar was the flag bearer of the Indian contingent at the London Olympics 2012. He had won a bronze medal in the previous edition and expectations were high. He cruised past all the rounds with ease to reach the finals. Unfortunately Japanese wrestler Yonemetsu was too good for the Indian star and he settled for a silver medal.
Saina Nehwal
Saina Nehwal was seeded third at the competition and the entire nation expected a medal from the youngster. Saina didn't disappoint completely as she won a bronze medal, first woman shuttler to do so.

Mary Kom came to London Olympics as 5 times World boxing championship and a lot was expected from the boxer. Mary Kom cruised passed all the rounds but unfortunately lost in the semi-final settling for a bronze.

Vijay Kumar was the only other silver medalist among the Indians at the London Olympics 2012. He won the medal in the Men's 25 m rapid fire pistol category.
