New Delhi, Aug 2: Speaking over the controversy surrounding the omission of PU Chitra from the Indian athletes' squad for the upcoming World Championship Anju Bobby George stated former's omission wasn't incorrect.

Her disqualification from the Indian team for the World Championship, scheduled to be held from 4th August 13th August, has already raised controversy and she has moved to the court. Chitra still couldn't find a berth in the national team.

Anju Bobby, who was appointed as one of the observers appointed by Union Sports Ministry, is in the same committee along with another former legendary athlete PT Usha.

Bobby won the bronze medal in the 2003 Paris World Championship.

She said, “In spite of winning gold medal in the Asian Championship, one might not be eligible to take part in the World Championship. He or she has to reach the timing World Championship needs. Despite the fact that Chitra won gold medal in the Asian Championship her timing could not qualify for World Championship. Usha has pointed it correctly."

Bobby also added saying, “It is not that me or Usha are in the position to include or to omit any athlete. We watch the athletes' performance in all major international and major domestic tournaments and then submit our own opinion to the ministry."

She has doubt whether anybody can win medals in the World Championship and clarified, “It is difficult for any of the Indian athletes to win medals in such a tough competition. I can see a ray of hope in Neeraj Chopra, the javelin thrower. If he can throw the javelin up to the distance he threw in the junior World Championship, Neeraj can win medals."

Anju Bobby, who is also involved in coaching, has spotted five promising long jumpers and triple jumpers whom she trains them at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) Bangalore campus.

She said, “I have been trying to take them to international standard. Let us see."
