Rio de Janeiro, Aug 9: Australia won the first gold medal in women's rugby sevens event at Rio Olympics 2016 yesterday (August 8).
While it was a historic night for the Australians as this was the first time in the history of the games that rugby sevens was introduced, another beautiful thing occurred on the pitch just when the final whistle blow.
Marjorie Enya, a 28-year-old manager at the Deodora stadium proposed to one of the Brazilian players, Isadora Cerullo inside the pitch.
Enya, grabbed a microphone on the sidelines and delivered an emotional speech expressing her love for Isadora. The couple then embrassed each other.
Later speaking about the incident, Enya told BBC Sport: "As soon as I knew she was in the squad I thought I have to make this special.
"I know rugby people are amazing and they would embrace it," she added, and insisted she had not been nervous about popping the question so publicly to her partner of two years.
"She is the love of my life. The Olympic Games can look like closure but for me it's starting a new life with someone. I wanted to show people that love wins."
The couple live in Sao Paulo, where Cerullo, a dual US citizenship holder, moved to focus on making Brazil's squad for the Games.
