Chennai, Dec 22: Team Tata Motors scored a 1-2-3 in the Pro Stock category after the Kolkata pair of Saurav Chatterjee and Ashoke Kumar Basu won the class in the MMSC Chennai TSD Rally, the ninth and final round of the 2014 Indian National TSD Rally Championship, at Sriperumbudur on Sunday (December 21). They attracted a total time penalty of two minutes, 25 seconds.
Adding cheer to Team Tata Motors was the second place achieved by Chidananda Murthy and BS Sujith Kumar, with a total time penalty of 02:43 minutes.
Their total points are 192. However, the two Bangaloreans had already clinched the 2014 title prior to this round. This is their third Pro Stock National title in a row. Somashekar D/ Chandar (Team Tata Motors) finished third with a penalty of 09:42.
"We tried our best but missed out by very little. Anyway, we are happy that the National title is ours and winning three in a row is definitely special," said Chidananda Murthy.
Sujith Kumar added: "It would have been nice to clinch a win in the Chennai event and finish the season with a bang. However, we are the National champions for this year too and that is what matters."
In the Pro Expert category, Team Tata Motors' Ajgar Ali and Mohammad Musthafa were pipped by Karthick Maruthi and Sankar Anand for the National title. Ali-Musthafa led by four points before this round but their rivals won the round here following a tie-breaker.
Both recorded identical time penalties of 46 seconds in Sunday's event but Maruthi and Anand prevailed due to having eight zero penalty times as compared to six of Ali-Musthafa. In TSD rallying, the time closer to zero penalty determines the winners. Ali-Mohammad now have 166, while Maruthi-Anand are on 169.
Another Team Tata Motors entry of Srikanth GM and Chandrashekar M finished third in the Pro Expert category, losing out by just two seconds.
