World's best surfers will contest over nine days of this marathon event which goes on till August 3 (Sunday).
The men's line-up includes defending champion Alejo Muniz (Brazil), 11-time ASP World Champions Kelly Slater of USA, Julian Wilsom (USA), who won in 2012, and others.
In the women's section, defending Vans US Open of Surfing champion Carissa Moore (Hawaii) will be keen to win the title again.

The 21-year-old Moore said it was great to be back in California. "It's great to be back in California and I always love coming here. The US Open has a strong history and we have an exciting title race this year. Sally (Fitzgibbons) has been on fire the last few events and it's been a little while since our last contest in Fiji. I'm looking forward to putting the jersey back on, I have some good boards under my feet and I hope we can put on a good show for everyone," Moore was quoted as saying in the media.
The Vans US Open is a pivotal point on the Men's ASP Qualification Series and Women's World Championship Tour (WCT). For the men, a win at the Vans US Open - ASP Men's Prime event - will earn them valuable points toward a coveted Top 10 QS ranking. And for the women, with a close race for the ASP World Title, the Vans US Open of Surfing marks a key midseason stop on the Women's WCT, the official website of the event wrote.
