Women experts all set to make CYG a success

Pune, Apr 21 (UNI) Women experts from various fields have risen to the challenge of making the third Commonwealth Youth Games (CYG), to get underway at the Shiv Chhatrapati Sports City Balewadi here from October 12 to 18, a success.

A galaxy of women participating in a seminar, jointly hosted by the National Sports Trust and Press Club at the Royal Connaught Boat Club here today, unequivocally showed their strength to make the enormous challenge before them to make the first ever CYG a resounding success. The games serve as the trials for the ensuing 2010 Commonwealth Games, slated to be held in Delhi.

The seminar was presided over by the city Mayor Rajlaxmi Bhosale and former Asian Women's Hockey Association President Ms Arnavaz Damania.

Ms Bhosale, in her remarks, stated that the huge responsibility of making the event a success lies on the shoulders of the Mayor and the central and the state governments have extended their whole hearted support.

National Sports Trust President Ms Manisha Ghate, the recent recipient of Jijamata award, stated that the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has reserved thirty per cent quota for women in view of their increasing participation in the field of sports. She also pointed out that 30 women have been selected to assist in various capacities in the ensuing CYG.

Maharashtra Olympic Association (MOA) secretary General Prof Balasaheb Landge stressed that women will be given their rightful place in the Olympic movement in future. He further expressed that utilization of women force will certainly go a long way in uplifting sports in the country.
