New Delhi, Oct 25: Indian wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt's bronze medal from the London Olympics will not be upgraded to silver.
Yogeshwar Dutt's London Olympics bronze may be upgraded to silver
As per reports, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has now decided to drop an investigation into silver medallist from the 2012 Games - deceased Besik Kudukhov of Russia - who allegedly tested positive for using banned substance.
In a statement, the Russian Wrestling Federation said his sample from the 2012 Games was retested this year and found to be positive for the steroid turinabol.
His case was passed to a three-member IOC disciplinary commission, comprising Denis Oswald of Switzerland, Sweden's Gunilla Lindberg and Ugur Erdener from Turkey.
On October 19, the committee decided to terminate the investigation against Kudukhov, the statement added.
"The International Olympic Committee will not deprive wrestler Besik Kudukhov of his silver medal at the 2012 Olympic Games in London," first deputy president of the Russian Wrestling Federation Georgy Bryusov, also a vice president of the United World Wrestling, said in the statement.
The four-time world champion and two-time Olympic medallist Kudukhov died in a car crash in 2013 in southern Russia.
Earlier this year, Dutt, who bagged a bronze medal in men's 60kg freestyle category in London Games, informed that his bronze medal has been upgraded to silver but refused to accept the medal.
