IPL 2022, A forgettable season for CSK!

The defending champions had a dismal outing in the just-concluded IPL season. Let's take decode Chennai Super Kings' performance.
Chitrangada Chaudhuri
Chennai Super Kings is the second-most successful franchise after Mumbai Indians. And the 15th edition saw both finish in the bottom half of the table
While MI finished last, Chennai finished second-last on the points table. CSK clinched just four wins from their 14 games this season.
This was only the second time Chennai failed to make it to the playoffs.
Just a couple of days prior to the start of the tournament, MS Dhoni handed over captaincy to Ravindra Jadeja.
Change in captaincy
Being led under a new skipper, Super Kings endured their worst-ever start, falling to four straight losses.
Losing start
Chennai bounced back with a win over Southern Rivals RCB, but their troubles were far from over.
The four-time champions struggled under Jadeja's leadership and trouble grew further as the all rounder handed the captain's hat back to Dhoni.
A major blow to CSK was missing Deepak Chahar, who was ruled out of the entire 2022 IPL season due to injury.

For most of the first half of the season, CSK's opening pair failed to impress as the Super Kings struggled in the powerplay overs.
The batting line-up failed to impress this season, with opener Ruturaj Gaikwad being the top-scorer for CSK with just 368 runs from 14 games.
Midway through the season, opener Gaikwad found his way back, as he hammered three half-centuries.
MS Dhoni who scored 232 runs from 14 games, struck one half-century this season
CSK, who have played in 9 finals from 12 seasons, has been the most consistent side. But inconsistency was one of the major drawbacks for former champs this season.
Injuries was another big concern, with Chahar and Adam Milne missing out. Also Devon Conway missed out on half the matches, which did not bode well for CSK.
Moreover, Jadeja had a tough season, juggling batting, bowling, fielding and captaincy. It reflected as his standards dropped and he struggled in all departments.
One of the positives for CSK was left-arm pacer Mukesh Choudhary, who impressed in Chahar's absence. Choudhary finished as the joint highest wicket-taker along with Dwayne Bravo
All in all, Chennai Super Kings endured one of their toughest campaigns and they will hope to bounce back next season.
