IPL 2022, LSG vs RCB: All you need to know about the Eliminator

Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bangalore will clash in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 Eliminator at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Here we take a look at past Eliminator history and what is at stake.

Newcomers Lucknow Super Giants will be playing their first ever playoff match, while this will RCB’s thirteenth such match in IPL.
A victory in the match takes the team one step closer to the final as they will meet Rajasthan Royals in Qualifier 2 (a virtual semifinal) at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
A win in Qualifier 2 will take the team to the final, where they will face Gujarat Titans, who beat Royals in Qualifier 1.
Eliminator was first introduced in the 2011 season. Before that, the spots for IPL final were decided by two semifinals.
In 11 Eliminators held so far, only SRH went all the way to lift the title in 2016 by beating RCB in the summit clash.

Among the 11 Eliminator winners, only three have gone past Qualifier 2 and only once has the team lifted the title.
RCB has so far progressed to the playoffs in 8 seasons, but have failed to land a trophy despite reaching the final three times in 2009, 2011 and 2016.
In the eliminator matches, RCB has lost 2 and won once in their 3 attempts. In the semifinals, they have won once in 2009.
RCB and LSG have met only once in IPL so far with the Bangalore-based side winning earlier in IPL 2022 league stage by 18 runs.
